Central and northern Appalachian mine idlings continue as year nears end

Second-half coal mine idlings in Central and Northern Appalachia continued apace in both the thermal and metallurgical coal sectors as 2012 draws to a close (CO 11/12/12). But one coal industry analyst said that he thinks the idling pace will drop off as the eastern US industry looks to an expected second-half 2013 resurgence in coal demand.
