Organic farm group, one of the ATUT project sponsored groups, has devoted a lot of attention towards the beneficial use of agricultural residues by converting them to organic fertilizers through microbial activities. An intensive programe for the transfer of modern composting technique to a wide range of both private and governmental farms has been applied over the last three years. This has resulted in a successful spread of this technology, among end users, and a great number of farms has already gained experience enough to convert all of their residues into high quality compost. Organic farm group has also participated actively, on a daily base and over the last two seasons, in the national compaign for recycling of rice straw into compost. In parallel, the group has developed and generated a technology for hastening and upgrading nutritive value of the produced compost. The technology is named CompoMAX technology for production of Rapid and Nutritionally Enriched Compost (RNEC). It involves the use of two sets of selected microbial formula named CompoMAX-1 and CompoMAX-2. Application of the former inoculum into compost piles has reduced significantly composting period by almost one third, whereas the second inoculum markedly improved the nutritive value of the produced compost by providing more available nutrients and growth promoting substances. Work in progress in order to develop the third version of microbial inocula named CompoMAX-3 which includes powerful microbial strains with appreciable capailities of controlling soil born diseases.
