Lateral-bearing varieties and the new varieties INRA French varieties require the use of vigorous rootstocks. For that reason, Ctifl and the Creysse Research Centre have engaged in the selection of such rootstocks within a Juglans regia population obtained by seedlings. In order to multiply the identified clones, the conditions of plant production by micropropagation have been investigated and clearly defined. Micropropagation actually well mastered for J. regia allowed the production of the most vigorous Juglans regia. Since 1994, comparative trials at the Creysse Research Centre enable the verification of agronomic characteristics of these new rootstocks, such as RG 2 (LIBA), RG 15 (CHEREBA) and RG 12 (NOBA), in particular. Own-rooted Lara has been studied as well, inside the same experimental plot. Good results were observed for RG2 (LIBA), better than the results for Juglans regia RA 611 seedlings. Lara multiplied in vitro was more vigorous and recorded a good production in 2003. However, the total production of Lara was lower compared with Lara graft, the best rootstocks from Juglans regia seedlings..
