The book design and illustrations in gentle shades of pink and blue delight the eye, while complementing the content. Simple and sweet line drawings of babies and moms depict all shades of skin color, diverse facial features, and varied body shapes, in the loving acts of bearing, caring, and nurturing new life. Men are also lovingly represented by the illustrations as they are carrying and bottle-feeding babies, thus communicating the importance of their participation and support. Because the imagery in the book is inclusive of diversity, I found myself hoping for a more nuanced, relativistic approach, or at least overt acknowledgment of cultural trends and variations in breastfeeding.
