Effect of different packing materials on the storage quality of some apricot varieties

Fruits of the cultivars Precoce de Colomer, Bebeco and Canino were placed in plastic bags or wrapped in paper and stored at 0℃ and 85% RH for 4 weeks. Samples were taken at weekly intervals and analysed immediately, or left for 2 days at 20deg to study shelf-life; firmness, colour, weight loss, titratable acids and TSS were assessed. Average weight loss was considerably reduced for fruits stored in plastic bags. This treatment also produced the firmest fruits with the best colour after 4 weeks' storage. Fruits wrapped in paper had the highest titratable acids and TSS. Canino and Bebeco could be stored for 4 weeks in plastic bags, and have an adequate shelf-life, whereas Precoce de Colomer could be stored for 3 weeks.
