Ian Ball knew a good opportunity when he saw it. It was 2007, and McEwen Mining CEO and chief owner Rob McEwen was casting about his company for someone to head up the exploration program at the company's El Gallo site in Sinaloa, Mexico. "Nobody wanted to do it," Ball recalled. So, he volunteered. "I think it was both seizing the initiative and saying [... j 'Okay now you can run your own program.'"
