Catalysis: an integrated textbook for students is an interesting,timely and well- thought-out text that aims to pull together the three traditional paradigms of heterogeneous catalysis,homogeneous catalysis and enzyme catalysis.If you enhance these three with discussion of reaction kinetics,reaction engineering,catalyst characterisation and synthesis of catalysts and their supports,then you have this text,an’integrated textbook for students'.The book is based on the Catalysis an Integrated Approach postdoctoral course,which has run since 2001,over one week,by Nederlands Instituut voor Onderzoek in de Katalyse,on a North Sea island(Schiermonnikoog).Schiermonnikoog is about 16 km long by 4 km wide,population just under 1000 and only about 200 cars,which sounds like an ideal location to confine a group of postdocs and hammer them hard with everything they always wanted to know(and some things they probably did not know they wanted to know)about catalysis.All very full-on!
