Preoperative methylene blue injection as a surgical adjuvant in treatment of orbital dermoid cyst.

Dermoid cyst is the most common cystic lesion of the orbit (Shields et al. 1997). The classic treatment is complete surgical resection. However, accidental rupture of the cyst may occur; this often causes marked inflammation or increases the risk of recurrence (Shields et al. 1997). In this article, a new technique utilizing preoperative methylene blue injection (PMBI) for the excision of orbital dermoid cysts is described.
