Aetiological heterogeneity of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas: the role of human papillomavirus infections, smoking and alcohol

We assessed the interaction effects between OPC risk factors (smoking and alcohol consumption) and HPV infections. Our results support independent roles of these risk factors and possible combined effects. Efforts should be made to tackle these risk factors simultaneously.
