THE virions of cytoplasmic polyhedrosis viruses occluded in proteinaceous polyhedra are able to withstand adverse conditions such as desication, sunlight and moderate temperature for relatively long periods. The CPV of silkworm (Bm CPV) persisted forone year in rearing room (Aruga, 1971). The capacity of virus to retain its pathogenecity over a long period in different environment indicates persistence of virulence and is one of the important factors for epizootics. Many silkworm rearers also rear domestic fowls, which often feed upon the diseased worms rejected in litter. Cytoplasmic polyhedrosis has been isolated from many mulberry defoliators. Aretake and Kayamura (1973) studied pathogenecity of silkworm CPV to several lepido-pterans like Dendrolimusspectabilis,Philosamiacynthia pryeri, Lymantria sp., Malacosoma neustria etc. The virus retained infectivity after passage through various insects.
