Osteoarthritis in Birds: No, They Aren't 'Just' Getting Older

In avian clinical practice, patients with osteoarthritis are commonly presented. This painful condition of articular degeneration and bony proliferation impacts not only the old and infirm but often young birds as well. Once recognized, the clinical manifestations of osteoarthritis can typically be managed but the cycle of degeneration continues to progress. Treatment of osteoarthritis is complicated given the dynamic nature of the disease and dynamic nature of our avian patients.
