Time is stress. This is something we should keep in mind as we wean calves, pregnancy-check cows or receive cattle into the feedyard. We shouldn't hurry, but we should be efficient and recognize when and where stress takes place as we handle cattle. Remember: The best way to work cattle quickly is to work cattle slowly.Stress occurs every time we interact with cattle. Highly stressed cattle are more likely to have health issues and performance will be impaired — whether that be reproductive efficiency, weaning weight or feed performance.Vaccine response can also be severely compromised. Both the producer and the cattle benefit from minimizing stress.
