Sustainable aesthetics

Should beauty be discarded in the face of a global imperative for architecture to engage with sustainability and heightened social consultation? Izaskun Chinchilla and Emilio Luque argue that this is not the case, and that beauty can be rearticulated and used as a way to achieve these goals. Beauty matters to architects, and thus to all citizens, as inhabitants of the built environment that they contribute to shaping. Aestheticjudgement often guides architects throughout their design process: they step back and check if things look good and match their chosen visual references.
