Stuart introduced the depth of experience at Repair Care International: 5,000 certified professionals, 3,000 projects, 700 dealers and more than 30 years' experience. He then emphasised the benefits of timber as a material, with its versatility and lower global warming impact. The mechanism of wood decay was examined, requiring a temperature of 5°C-40°C, oxygen, and a moisture content of 21% or more. It is the latter that can be controlled. The benefits of repair over replacement were then discussed.
