Great Skua feeding behaviour at sea off the Isles of Scilly

Non-breeding and post-breeding Great Skuas Stercorarius skua are essentially pelagic. At sea, their feeding behaviour is largely parasitic, attacking and robbing species up to the size of Northern Gannet Moms bassanus. They also kill weakened birds up to the size of large gulls, fish for themselves and scavenge around trawlers (Olsen & Larsson 1997; BWPi 2006: Furness et al. 2017).
