Regional Bonsai Care:Technical Training - Why I Participated and What I Got Out of It

The topic of technical training was explored in previous articles including one in journal Volume 49 Number 2 (2015) discussing the various providers across the United States.This article interviews bonsai enthusiasts having completed one or more of the training sessions given by the three professionals on the west coast including Michael Hagedorn's Seasonals, (Figure l) Boon Manakitivipart's Bonsai Intensives (Figure 2), andRyan Neil's Defining Concepts (Figure 3). The article focuses on student experiences and value they received from completing the courses. Information on course content, length, fees, etc. are more completely explored in the 2015 article and on each of the providers' websites and will not be detailed in this article.
