Think Outside the Pot

Bonsai perpetuates broad rule-based didacticism. Yet many acknowledge that to know but still break the rules reveals true art. Perhaps the most fundamental rule is a bonsai must grow in a pot, after all theas first Chinese character in the word bonsaimeans container, and so defines the art as a tree growing outside the ground. If one were to broaden their interpretation of container there could be many ways to grow a miniature tree beyond its' usual setting. So, let's thinkoutside the pot and energize personal creativity and see how far we can get beyond the ceramic container.
