This Dwarf Scots pine, Pinus sylvestris 'R.A.F.', is an unusual dwarf variety selected by Richard A. Fennichia, prominent horticulurist and hybridizer of lilacs, rhododendrons and other unusual woody plant material, in Rochester, New York. Mr. Fennechia's hybrids are always unique. This Scots pine selection has short needles and tends to bud back on old wood. When established the trunk rapidly begins to swell and thicken to present an aged appearance.
