Protective effects of Nitraria retusa extract and its constituent isorhamnetin against amyloid beta-induced cytotoxicity and amyloid beta aggregation

Nitraria retusa is a halophyte species that is distributed in North Africa and used as a traditional medicinal plant. In this study, N. retusa ethanol extract and its constituent isorhamnetin (IRA) protected against amyloid (A)-induced cytotoxicity in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells. An in vitro A aggregation assay suggested that IRA destabilizes A fibrils.
