Geomagnetic activity and human reproduction in the Far North

Previously, it was shown that annual rhythm of human reproduction is associated with photoperiod and air temperature. However, insufficient information exists regarding the association between climatic factors in the Far North and human reproductive function. We tested significance of associations of air temperature, day length and the level of geomagnetic activity with the length of pregnancy and anthropometric characteristics of newborns. Using cross-correlation and covariance analyses, the Kp-index during the period of conception was shown to have negative associations with pregnancy duration and newborn weight. Day length and air temperature did not have significant associations with characteristics of reproductive function of the inhabitants of the Far North.
