Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE), either in the absence or presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), followed by protein transfer to nitrocellulose or nylon membranes and immu-nostaining, represents a widely used technique in the analysis ofprotein mixtures. Duplicated electro-phoretic separations are usually run in these analyses; one gel employed for protein staining (usually with Coomas-sie~(R) Brilliant Blue R-250) and the other for immunoblotting.
