Analysts highlight threat to Ciech's profitability from Ciner's Turkish soda ash investment

LONDON (ICIS)--Profitability at major Poland-based soda ash producer Ciech must be expected to take a substantial hit from huge capacities to be launched by Turkey's Ciner Group over the next two years, Raiffeisen Centrobank (RCB) said on Thursday. Ciner's soda ash investments in Turkey should see the 900,000 tonne/year Eti Soda plant come online early this year and the 2.5m tonne/year Star Kazan installation - a $1.35bn facility that will be the world's largest soda ash plant - launched in two phases between 2018 and 2019.
