EU member states back near-total neonicotinoid ban to protect bees

LONDON (ICIS)--EU member states on Friday backed European Commission proposals to completely ban the outdoor use of three pesticides which studies have linked to the decline of bee populations. The ban, which does not apply to greenhouse use of the pesticides, is expected to be formally adopted in the next few weeks, following a European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) investigation that concluded last month with the verdict that neonicotinoids do present a threat to bees.
