It has been an economic success story on a scale the world has never seen before and is unlikely to see again. 800m people have been lifted out of poverty in China since the 1990s, largely thanks to urbanisation. But have China’s urbanisation policies run their course? Perhaps. If China fails to adapt its policies to suit new economic and demographic realities then petrochemicals and polymers demand growth may substantially slow down.
