Acta Biomaterialia Gold Medal Award 2008: Dr. Robert S. Langer.

The winner of the first Acta Biomaterialia Gold Medal Award is Dr. Robert S. Langer, who is an Institute Professor (one of 13-this is the highest honor awarded to faculty) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr. Langer also holds appointments at the Harvard Medical School and Children's Hospital Boston. Dr. Langer received his B.S. in chemical engineering from Cornell University in 1970 and his Sc.D., also in chemical engineering, from MIT in 1974. Dr. Langer completed his postdoctoral work at the Children's Hospital Medical Center and began his career at MIT as an assistant professor of nutritional biochemistry in the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences.
