Atlantic hurricane season officially gets underway

HOUSTON (ICIS)--The Atlantic hurricane season officially began on Wednesday, 1 June. Weather experts forecast that the 2016 hurricane season likely will be "near-normal", with the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicting a 70% chance of 10 to 16 named storms. Four to eight of those storms could become hurricanes, with up to four reaching major storm status of 111 mph (178.6 kph) winds or higher. The season runs through 30 November.
