HOUSTON (ICIS)--President Barack Obama nominated federal appellate Judge Merrick B Garland on Wednesday to fill the vacant seat of Justice Antonin Scalia on the US Supreme Court. Garland was one of three federal appellate judges on Obama’s short list of nominees. The other two judges were Sri Srinivasan and Paul Watford. Garland’s nomination will likely spark a significant confirmation battle with Republicans who hold the majority in the US Senate.
