Judge dismisses 20,000 claims in BP US refinery case

A Texas state judge has dismissed approximately 20,000 claims filed against BP by people alleging a 2010 benzene emissions release from a Texas City refinery made them sick, ICIS learned on Wednesday. Judge Lonnie Cox granted BP's request to remove nearly half of the 45,000 pending class-action claims after he noted that plaintiffs either never showed evidence of damages or opted out of a settlement.
