'Elementary Statistics with applications in Medicine and the Biological Sciences' by Frederick E. Croxton1 was my (H.E.) first textbook on statistics. It was at a time when we had to calculate our statistics 'by hand'. Later on I had the opportunity to accompany the late professor Alvan R. Feinstein on his visit to the University of Leuven. I obtained his voluminous and famous 'Multi-variable Analysis. An Introduction" (600 pages)2. Some years later I discovered the SPSS statistical package. This happened at a time when my teachers had explained the meaning and threats of 'data dredging'. However, data dredging became a handsome tool for increasing citation indexes. Nevertheless, everybody has easy access, free of charge, to Wikipedia. It is the cheapest place to learn about the limitations of so-called predictors and correlations.
