摘要

This paper discusses the stochastic inverse method of estimating the sound speed perturbation field from information on travel times of sound pulses through a real ocean. A simulation experiment on forward and inverse problems for an assumed sound speed perturbation field has been attempted. For the formulation of the stochastic inverse, the vertical structure of the ocean was modelled using quasi-geostrophic theory, and the horizontal structure was assumed to have a Gaussian covariance with a length scale of 100km. Good agreement was observed between the assumed and the reconstructed sound speed perturbation fields.
