When it comes to running bar stock through a CNC lathe, there are two choices: pull it with a bar puller or push it with a bar feeder. According to Tom Sheridan, vice president of marketing for Royal Products, Hauppauge, N.Y., CNC bar pullers are a low-cost way to automate any turning center and improve productivity by enabling the machine to run unattended. At less than $1,000-compared to around $15,000 and up for a bar feeder-Sheridan said there's no reason every CNC lathe shouldn't have one.
