摘要

The major difference between acute adverse effects and late adverse effects is that most of late adverse effects occur irreversibly even if they occur less frequently. The causes of late adverse events are poor regeneration due to the reduction of stem cells in normal tissues that receive radiation, ischemia due to stenosis or obstruction of blood vessels, and interstitial fibrosis. The radiation oncologist usually makes treatment plans within the tolerance dose of normal tissue. However, in order to prioritize tumor control, there are occasions that we have to irradiate a dose that may cause late effects. Treatment of late adverse radiation effects is often difficult, but coping to suppress symptoms is possiole.
