On recognition and understanding of characters and document images as interaction media

摘要

Research on character recognition and document image understanding has focused on image-to-character-code conversion using pattern recognition, as done with optical character readers (OCR). However, the time has come for new near-term research directions on these topics. This paper discusses the possibilities of regarding character recogntion and document image underestanding as interaction media.
