ACS 1000-world's first standard AC drive for medium-voltage applications

Swiss-based ABB Industrie has introduced a new AC drive, named ACS 1000, as a 'standard' product for the majority of medium-voltage applications. The drive, which is designed for the power range of 315 to 5,000 kW and voltages of 2.3 kV, 3.3 kVand 4.16 kV, offers benefits that include shorter delivery times, lower first-time costs and increased reliability. A main area of application for the ACS 1000 is in retrofit and upgrade projects. The good performance and compact design of the drive - the world's smallest in its class - were made possible by the incorporation of ABB innovations such as the Integrated Gate Commutated Thyristor (IGCT), Direct Torque Control (DTC) and a new output sinewave filter.
