SECOND NATIONAL BIODYNAMIC CONFERENCE IN MEXICO

TO THE SURPRISE OF MANY PEOPLE,the introduction of the Demeter symbol was in 1928 in Chiapas, Mexico, at thefirst Biodynamic coffee plantation ofRodolfo and Walter Peters in Finca Irian-da. This project is still farmed according to biodynamic principles today.This initial impulse towards biodynamics in Mexico remained undeveloped for most of the past century for various reasons, and only a very few farms have been certified since that time. In the past few years, interest in the movement has started gaining strength, thanks to a growing interest in healthy agriculture and the existing organic movement According to the USDA Global Agriculture Information Network, Mexico is the number one producer of organic coffee and tropical and subtropical organic fruits,and third in total number of producers. The Mexican organic agricultural industry has been seeking to expand, as the demand for organic and healthy foods has created new market opportunities both domestically and abroad. We feel that this will help to stimulate the growth and interest in biodynamics in Mexico.
