In grade four during the 1955-56 school year, much happened for me. This was my first truly academic year. Up until then, school had consisted of the four R's (reading, righting, 'rithmetic, and religion). Religion, I was told by the nuns, was the most important subject in the curriculum. The nun who taught religion throughout the school, and who was my grade teacher, gave us our first taste of real academics with a course in human geography.
