Recently, space-time transmission techniques which use multiple antennas at both the transmitter and receiver sides have attracted a lot of interest as one of the solutions to achieve high capacities over the wireless channel. This paper investigates the performance of space-time transmission systems in a frequency flat Rayleigh fading environment. Ordered successive receivers for space-time transmission based on linear interference rejection and nonlinear cancellation algorithms are discussed. The previously proposed V-BLAST algorithm is extended to the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion. For the proposed ordered MMSE receiver, the choice of the ordering metric is discussed and its performance is evaluated. When the channel is estimated, an adaptive algorithm for the proposed receiver and tracking methods against channel variations are presented. Results of performance evaluation of this adaptive receiver are also presented.
