This paper investigates by system-level simulations the throughput performance employing fast cell selection (FCS) coupled with fast packet scheduling such as Proportional Fairness (PF) and Round Robin (PR) methods considering various propagation and traffic models high speed downlink packet access. Simulation results elucidated that the effect of FCS becomes smaller in fast fading channel although FCS exhibits the throughput improvement in slow fading channel and that improvement by FCS becomes smaller in 2-path fading channel compared to that in 2-path channel. Furthermore, it is also clarified that the effect of FCS in Modified ETSI WWW browsing model is greater compared to that in the model such that the shared packet channel is continuously transmitted, because the user-diversity effect in the PF method becomes smaller. Consequently, it is shown that the throughput at the cumulative distribution of 20 % employing FCS coupled with PF method is increased by approximately 60 (40) % compared to that without FCS in 1(2)-path fading channel.
