Is traceability an idea whose time has come? To begin answering this question, allow me to start in Detroit, far from field, farm, and fork. For an entire generation many of us were led to believe there was something like an "American" car that we Americans wanted to buy. Up until 1973 that might have been true — a time when the American cars had more than 90% market share. But over time, it was Americans like us, not green Martians, who bought all those Civics, Corollas, Accords, Camrys, Saabs, and Subarus.
