Case report: Hypopituitarism masquerading as failure to thrive in a 75-year-old woman

Although abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, and diarrhea are usual symptoms of UC, constipation is unusual.3 Because CD may be limited to the proximal part of intestine, constipation may occur during the course of CD, but diarrhea rather than constipation is the main feature of UC, although constipation may be the only symptom when UC involves only the distal rectum. The etiology of constipation in elderly adults is not greatly different from causes in younger individuals, but certain disease processes occur more often in older adults.4 The evaluation of elderly adults presenting with constipation poses a difficult challenge for physicians because of physiological changes, medication use, and preexisting conditions.
