摘要

In the.spring of 1918, a novel H1N1 influenza virus emerged that would go on to kill at least 35 million-and perhaps as many as 100 million-worldwide. It was a time when the global population was a quarter of today's.In the spring of 2009, a novel H1N1 virus emerged that, while less lethal, carries striking resonances with its serotype predecessor of 91 years ago. On April 29, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a Phase 5 pandemic alert for the new infection-one step down from Phase 6, which indicates a full-scale global pandemic.
