摘要

Abstract Modified metal oxides with surfactant moiety can be used to remove organic pollutant such as nitro-compounds from water due to their ability to increase the adsorptive behaviors towards organic molecules. Therefore, this work is devoted to prepare γ?aluminum oxide nanoparticles (γ-Al2O3-NPs) via glycothermal process and modify the surface with a cationic surfactant such as N-cetyl-N,N,N-trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) using microwave-assisted synthesis technique to produce a novel nanocomposite (γ-Al2O3-NPs-CTAB). The two nanomaterials were characterized by the SEM and HR-TEM to confirm their morphological aspects, FT-IR to identify the presence of different functional groups, XRD to follow-up the crystal structure and TGA to compare their thermal stability as well as surface area analysis. The removal behaviors towards 2-nitrobenzoic acid (2NBA) and 4-nitrobenzoic acid (4NBA) from aqueous solutions and real water samples are also explored in presence of different experimental controlling parameters by the batch equilibrium technique. No interfering was identified by the presence of some coexisting species such as of NaCl, KCl, CaCl2 and MgSO4. Excellent percentage recovery values for removal of 2NBA and 4NBA from tap water, sea water and wastewater samples were characterized in the ranges 93.27–97.33, 93.84–95.42 and 92.47–95.39±0.00–0.5%, respectively.
