Practice to research: use of benzodiazepines as adjunctive medications

If addictive patients are the 'forgotten children of psychiatry' then benzodiazepine dependent patients are the 'forgotten children of addiction medicine'. During the last few years, basic research on benzodiazepine dependence delivered exciting insights into the mode of action. This progress has not been matched by progress in clinical research.
