ASEAN auto sector still sees healthy growth in January-September

Vehicle production in ASEAN region increased in January-September amid strong demand. Despite a slight slowdown ofthe growth, sentiment is still positive and the automotive sector will keep supporting flat steel consumption in the region.Total auto production in ASEAN increased by 7.1% to 3.2 million units year-on-year, according to ASEAN AutomotiveFederation. The growth pace was lower compared to 8% posted in January-August. September production in Thailanddecreased by 3.7% y-o-y but increased by 1.1% compared to August, Metal Expert learnt. However, a stable growth ofoutput in Indonesia by 10.2% to 995,836 units since the beginning of this year supported total growth of figure. Totalvehicle sales in the region increased by 6.9% to 2.6 million units in yearly comparison.
