U.S. Steel makes progress in investment projects

U.S. Steel, one of the largest integrated steel producers in the USA, is advancing on projects focused on improving reliability and operation effciency.The company mentioned during the recent conference call that over April-June it executed a major planned outage at its Edgar Thomson Plant, Pennsylvania, that included major enhancements at BF No.3 and a hood replacement at one of its BOP vessels. “Our upgraded blast furnaces and steel shop will be critical to providing high-quality, low-cost liquid steel for our future endless casting and rolling investment,” David Burritt, president and CEO of U. S. Steel, said. Due primarily to improved reliability from the hood replacements at each of the vessels, U.S. Steel expects the run rate reliability improvements to generate 200,000 incremental short tons (181,000 t), Metal Expert learnt.
