BDSV cautiously optimistic about german scrap market after challenging 2018

The largest German recycling association (BDSV) is “cautiously optimistic” about prospects of the country’s scrap industry despite the difficulties it faces. The main issue of 2018 was a decline of scrap deliveries both to German and foreign customers. Scrap exports dipped by 2.7% to 8,565 t year-on-year and do- mestic deliveries inched down by 0.9% to 18,170 t y-o-y, out of which 14,600 went to steel mills (–2% y-o-y) and 5,570 to foundries (+4.1% y-o-y), according to BDSV report.
