Chinese wire rod export offer prices slightly increased this week, but trading re- mained limited on sluggish demand and tough competition in the major foreign sales markets of SE Asia. The biggest Northern mills, Beitai Steel and Yingkou Steel, pushed their offer pric- es by $5/t to $550/t FoB over the week. However, “all the leading producers still can accept a bid at around $540/t FoB,” a major Chinese trader told Metal Expert. The main reason for lifting the price was better local demand. Steelmakers signif- icantly improved their domestic sales recently, although their quotes added just RMB 14/t ($2/t) on average, mainly because of sharp production rise, which curbed market price growth.
