From Jan. 1, Tier 3 gasoline standards will go into force in the US, requiring refiners in the country to reduce sulfur content in gasoline to 10 ppm or less. According to 2014 study by the EPA, about 40 out of 108 affected refiners would need to buy sulfur credits, but it was not clear how many refineries have since then upgraded their facilities.
