A panel discussion on May 22 in Houston (Texas, US) had representatives of the three member-nations recommending reform rather than rejection of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Any proposed changes, however, should have been presented to Congress by May 17 if there was to have been a vote on the matter, according to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. US President Donald Trump has threatened to abandon the agreement, but many of his allies want to keep it in place, perhaps with some changes. Many cross-border issues are very different today than they were when NAFTA was established.
