US propylene continues to rise on tight fundamentals during week ending May 11.

The spot price for prompt-month polymer-grade propylene was assessed on May 11 at 49.5-50.0￠/lb FD US Gulf. Better downstream demand and planned turnarounds kept prices on the rise. Polypropylene (PP) producers expect to win at least 4-5￠/lb higher contract prices on the back of forecasts for 2-4￠/lb higher May propylene contract prices. Healthy domestic PP demand and low run rates by producers left little PP for the spot market. Export availability is not expected to open up until well into 3Q.
